The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs, at its Ethics, Values and Business Success Series with Purdy Crawford as guest speaker, took a moment to have Dr. Colin Dodds recognize the 2006 award winner for the Handyside Ethical and Social Responsibility Award. The award was established in 2005 with the purpose of increasing awareness around issues related to ethical and social responsibility in non-profit and/or for-profit organizations.
Alex Handyside who established the Handyside Ethical and Social Responsibility Award, is an active member of Saint Mary’s Alumni Executive and an advocate of the study of ethics, established this award to be presented annually to a deserving Saint Mary’s student who exhibits excellence in a paper, case or project for an ethics, marketing, management or business in society course.
The recipient of the 2006 Handyside Ethical and Social Responsibility Award is Heather Fitzpatrick, a part-time Master of Business Administration student at the Sobey School of Business and also a full-time employee in the Facilities Management Department at Saint Mary’s.
Heather’s paper was titled “Northwoodcare Incorporated and Northwood Homecare Ltd: A Framework for the Process of Ethical Research”. The project helped Northwood in the development of a process to handle issues related to ethical research within their organization.
